Moringa Ventures announces investment in Hydgen: Pioneering Industrial-Scale Green Hydrogen from Asia to the World
As the global economy confronts its toughest decarbonisation challenges, many carbon-intensive systems- heavy industry, chemical production, semiconductors, shipping, and the steel sector - remain beyond the reach of traditional electrification. That’s why at Moringa Ventures we are excited to work with Hydgen founders: Goutam Kumar Dalapati, Manippady Krishna Kumar and Michael Gryseels.
We are pleased to invest in Hydgen alongside Transition Venture Capital (India), Cloudberry Pioneer Investments (Europe) and India-based family offices.
The Problem with Hydrogen Today
Hydrogen is already a US$260 billion global market, but its delivery model is outdated. Industries across chemicals, semiconductors and refining, and even lab-grown diamonds rely on trucked-in cylinders and tanker trucks. This inflates costs by up to 70% and often fails to meet the ultra-high purity standards advanced industries demand
For companies competing globally, the stakes are clear: they need hydrogen that is pure, resilient, and cost-competitive, right at the point of use.

Hydgen’s Breakthrough
Hydgen, incubated as a spin-off from the National University of Singapore, is pioneering industrial-scale Anion Exchange Membrane (AEM) electrolyzers. Their solution combines the affordability of alkaline systems with the efficiency and flexibility of PEM, while eliminating the need for expensive platinum-group metals.
Key differentiators include:
Lowest unit cost in the industry, enabled by proprietary catalysts and stack design.
Ultra-pure hydrogen, delivered without additional purification.
Industrial-grade scalability, from 1 kW to 100 kW systems, with 250 kW stacks in development, far beyond the “lab-scale” systems of other AEM competitors.
With its advanced AEM electrolyser technology, Hydgen is leading the shift toward localised, scalable hydrogen production. This decentralised approach removes the logistical bottlenecks that have long constrained the hydrogen economy, empowering industrial users to decarbonise with agility and independence.
Why We Invested
Hydrogen is no longer just “nice to have” in the energy transition; it is emerging as the essential clean-fuel vector for the hardest-to-abate sectors, offering flexibility, industrial heat supply, and energy storage options that batteries alone cannot deliver.
As our Partner and Co-founder, Theodora Lai shared:
“Hydrogen is central to the world’s industrial and energy transition, yet much of today’s supply remains carbon-intensive and costly to transport. We believe decentralised hydrogen production will reshape the US$260 billion global hydrogen market. HYDGEN’s scalable AEM technology puts them ahead of that curve — solving industrial challenges while accelerating the clean transition — an innovation we’re proud to back at Moringa Ventures”
What’s Next for Hydgen
With this funding, Hydgen will:
Upgrade its manufacturing facility in Mangalore, India to a semi-automated assembly line.
Increase single AEM stack capacity to 250 kW, cementing its leadership in industrial-scale electrolyzers.
Support expansion into global markets including Japan, Europe, and the Middle East.
This is a powerful step forward not just for Hydgen, but for the broader deep-tech ecosystem that is redefining sustainability.
Investing in Hydgen is part of a larger mission at Moringa Ventures: to back founders who turn cutting-edge science into commercially viable solutions. As the world pushes toward decarbonization, Hydgen’s breakthrough is a reminder of Asia’s role in building the technologies that will define a sustainable future.
